What's Actually In It

None, across the entire lineup.

Yes, we only use non-GMO ingredients in yumwoof food. Alarmingly, mounting research links exposure to the pesticide glyphosate used in GMO crops to an increased risk of cancer. As the family behind yumwoof, we are individuals who avoid GMO ingredients in our own diet—and we want the same nutrition for our dogs too!

Yes, we use gluten-free oats.

Yes — culinary and functional mushrooms only. Think everyday immune and antioxidant support, not medical treatment.

Not all grains are created equal. The grains we use bring fiber and antioxidants and can support healthy blood sugar and triglyceride levels; a world away from heavily processed corn or wheat starch.

The taurine in our food supports normal heart function, but it is not a treatment for heart disease or a replacement for medication. Some cases of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) have been associated with low taurine levels, but heart conditions can have many causes.

The Cocomega™ effect is a new discovery showing how coconut oil combined with omega-3s have a modulating effect on each other, increasing their anti-inflammatory properties. Much research has been done over the last 3 years showing the Cocomega™ effect leads to more microbiome diversity (a biomarker of longevity), more good gut bacteria promoting immunity, less bad gut bacteria causing digestive issues, and reduced inflammation across your dog's entire body. The perfect kibble recipe includes exactly the right amounts of coconut oil and omega-3s to promote the Cocomega™ effect and see its benefits in your dog.

Real animal proteins, always. We don't use rendered meat meal in any recipe.

No; proteins stay whole and intact. We air-dry at low temperature instead of breaking food down into amino acids.

Ancestral Blend uses no premix at all — complete nutrition comes from a balanced mix of oysters, kelp, organ meats, and nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables.

Taurine occurs naturally in many animal meats and organs. In our food, the highest concentrations come from oysters, turkey heart, and anchovy.

How It's Made

Some ingredients are organic, though the food isn't certified organic overall. It is non-GMO and human-grade.

Yes, evidence shows natural food can help your dog live several years longer. We have a saying at yumwoof: "There is no such thing as a non-inflammatory dry kibble!" But why? Unfortunately, its hot extrusion cooking method oxidizes the fats inside—turning them into harmful free radicals which worsen allergies, digestive issues, joint pain and obesity. On the other hand, yumwoof's air-dried food is made with human-grade ingredients and prepared using a low-temperature cooking method to retain the natural nutrients in our food and keep the fats anti-inflammatory. That's why dogs who switch to yumwoof from dry kibble usually see real health improvements within 21 days.

Not required, but you can. A little warm water or dog-safe bone broth softens things up for picky eaters, senior dogs, or dogs with dental sensitivities.

Our food is made with non-GMO ingredients, and the meat is sourced directly from nearby farms. To ensure food safety, we send each batch we produce to a licensed third-party food lab that performs testing on yeast, mold, bacteria levels, and heavy metals. We always confirm our food will remain fresh for the entirety of its shelf life, leaving dogs with a fresh, healthy meal every time!

Yes, all our recipes meet AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including large-breed growth.

A fair question. Our controlled air-drying process is designed to reduce harmful pathogens while keeping the food shelf-stable.

No; it's air-dried, delivering a similar whole-food nutrition profile without the need for refrigeration. Air-drying also helps eliminate pathogens.

Very. Our air-drying process naturally locks in freshness; no artificial preservatives needed. Once you open the bag, we recommend feeding it within 4 to 6 weeks for peak freshness and texture.

All our recipes are developed through a collaboration between Yumwoof’s nutrition data scientists and a leading veterinary nutritionist. Together, they created hypoallergenic, natural dog food that meets or exceeds AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles.

Made in Spain, with ingredients sourced within 50 miles of our kitchen.

Feeding Amounts & Calories

Either works beautifully. It's a complete meal on its own, or a boost for other meals.

Yes, our all-life-stages formulation specifically covers large-breed growth.

Yes. All our recipes are formulated to meet AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including growth of large-sized dogs (70 lb+ as an adult). Puppies generally need close to double the adult feeding amount.

Allergies & Sensitivities

Great question, especially for a dog managing pancreatitis. We use a small amount of coconut oil, but fat tolerance varies dog to dog, your vet can help confirm whether the recipe's overall fat level is right for yours.

Ancestral Blend completely skips chicken and beef.

Our entire Ancestral Blend line can be a great option, but Turkey and Wild Caught Fish are especially good choices because they feature single, lower-allergen protein sources.

Switching Foods

For most dogs, yes — no full transition needed. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, a gradual switch is the safer bet.

We recommend transitioning gradually over 7–10 days. Even though the changes are minor, a gradual switch helps avoid digestive upset — this applies to moving from Perfect Superfood to Ancestral Blend too. A new name doesn't mean you can skip the transition.

Yes — these dogs often do better with a slower transition over 2–4 weeks, staying at each step for 5–7 days instead of 1–2.

Mild digestive changes are normal when introducing a new food — soft stools, gas, a smaller appetite, mild diarrhea, or mild vomiting. Slow down and stay at the current step longer. For repeated vomiting, bloody stool, lethargy, or refusing food for more than 24 hours, contact your vet.

Days 1–2: 75% current food / 25% new. Days 3–4: 50% / 50%. Days 5–7: 25% current / 75% new. Day 8+: 100% new food. For sensitive dogs, stretch each step to 5–7 days.

After your first full-size order, deliveries are typically scheduled every four to eight weeks based on your dog's needs. Our team can create a more personalized schedule if needed.

When you take yumwoof's personalization quiz, the meal plan we recommend for your dog is based on our extensive research on the top health issues associated with each dog breed. At the end of our quiz, you will be recommended the best air-dried food for your dog, as well as toppers to tailor their meal plan. During your trial, our nutritionists will help troubleshoot picky eaters and find a recipe your dog loves. This guarantee covers one bag only, so if you order 2+ bags for a dog trying Yumwoof for the first time, keep in mind only the first bag is covered. Shipping isn't refundable, so your refund covers the cost of the bag minus shipping.

We take care to pack every order correctly. If yours arrives damaged or contains the wrong item, contact our Support team. We'll look into it and make it right.
